What we grow:
As well as the above, we grow plums and apricots.
About the farm:
Highland court was originally an arable farm with a substantial Jersey milking herd. The farm started growing apples in the early 1950s and over the years increased acreage and production with new farms being acquired during the past 30 years. There is approximately 1,050 acres of farming land across the estate.
Cold storage for apples was built in 1960. In the late 1970s Highland Court began to introduce fruit packing and grading.
From January 2011 The Co-operative Farms began to lease the estate's five farms, packhouse and cold store.

About Jack: I joined Co-operative Farms as the farm manager in 2011 when Highland Court Farm was long term leased for the farming Group. It was a unique opportunity to get involved in a very exciting project which involved a 5- year expansion plan to plant 80ha of high intensive post and wire apple orchards, new campsite and farm buildings, new cold stores and all the infrastructure needed to create a modern leading edge top fruit farm. As well as apples, the farm’s 270ha grows pears, plums, cherries, black currants, apricots, walnuts, kiwifruit, and a wide range of smaller fruit crops at our local Pick Your Own (PYO) site. It has been very challenging but it is a great farm and there is a great team working with me.
I grew up sheep farming in New Zealand but after completing my BAgrSc, moved to England for a while then on to Kenya, where over 13 years I worked on several huge scale horticultural projects growing fresh produce for UK supermarkets. As our children grew older we needed to go back to the UK and I worked on the largest soft fruit farm in England. I also grew sweetcorn and asparagus and I managed to do some growing in Gambia and Senegal in the off seasons.
I now live locally and have four boys at school who keep me busy in my spare time. A lot of our family live here as well, so we enjoy family and friends in a beautiful part of England.
