At Co-op, we’ve always supported the UK farming industry and promoted British food. Recently, you, our customers and members, have shown a big interest in where your food comes from, and we know how important animal welfare, the environment and fairness in the supply chain are to you.
We’ve taken this on board, and have created long-term relationships with our farmers and suppliers so that we can work with them to give you complete transparency in our supply chain, which is built on honesty, fairness and trust. We have created the Co-op Farming Groups, which, combined with a clear sourcing strategy, gives us a great future.
Championing British farming
At the heart of our values is a commitment to be open and honest about where our food comes from, and to ensure that it is promoted in a fair and transparent way. Our agricultural team works with farmers and suppliers to ensure our products are sourced responsibly. You can find more about our pledge to support British farming in our sourcing report Born and Bred.
Agricultural Show 2015
Our support of British farming goes further than just rolling out the bunting. In 2015 we attended the Royal Highland, Great Yorkshire and Royal Welsh Shows, where our stands were a huge success. We were able to show how much hard work and dedication our producers put in to give the very best quality British food. Look out for the Co-op stand next summer at the Royal Highland Show (23-26 June), Great Yorkshire Show (12-14 July) and Royal Welsh Show (18-21 July).
We have launched two new awards to recognise the hard work of our farmers and suppliers – Outstanding Farmer of the Year Award and Best Agricultural Initiative Award.
Outstanding Farmer of the Year - Colin Mair (Dairy Farmer)
Best Agricultural Initiative Award - All protein suppliers for delivery of Farming Groups
